How to Have Your Best Year Ever
by Raymond David Salas
It’s a new year, a time when many people reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the new year.
Now, I’m not really a traditional “New Year’s resolution” or “goal” type of person. In years past, I usually just followed my guidelines for what I call “effortless success”:
- decide what I want
- write it down
- create a “dream book”
- visualize
- review daily
This year, however, I wanted to create even more powerful intentions for my life.
My Intentions for the New Year
- I want the Universe to “rock my world” in the most satisfying ways possible.
- I want this to be my best year ever, in all areas of my life.
- I want the Universe to “blow my mind” in outrageously wonderful ways, both expected and unexpected.
- I want to be filled with greater joy, peace, and prosperity.
- Every day in every way, I want my life to be better and better.
So, I asked myself, “How can I have all of this? How can this be my best year ever?”
Small Acts Done With Great Love
Somebody once asked Mother Teresa how she accomplished so many great things in her life.
She replied, “Only rarely in our lives are we called upon to do great things. But every day of our lives we are called upon to do little things with great love.”
In other words, there are no great acts, only small acts done with great love.
Here, from Mother Teresa, I learned a powerful key for having my best year ever. If I simply try to show up to each moment as lovingly and joyful as possible, the year will end up being a wonderful series of loving and joy-filled moments.
A simple, yet powerful formula for success. Don’t ya think?
How To Have Your Best Year Ever
How can I put these concepts into action now and have my best year ever?
- Segment intending
Every day consists of various segments of time. Before entering a particular segment, I set my intentions by deciding what I want to experience from that segment.
For example, if I am driving across town for an appointment, my intentions might be:
“I want to travel across town safely, smoothly, joyfully, and as quickly as possible, easily arriving with plenty of time, before my appointment. I want to find parking easily, with easy access to my appointment. I want every aspect and detail of this experience to be harmonious and satisfying for me from beginning to end.”
With a little practice, I have found segment intending to be a very powerful tool for consciously creating my life experiences.
- Choose to be happy and joyful.
As I noted in The Key to Happiness, being happy and joyful begins with the decision to be happy and joyful. It all comes down to feeling good, as much as possible, in every moment.
As Abraham-Hicks advises:
“Milk every moment for all the pleasure you can get from it.
People will say, ‘Well, I have to work on my goals,’ or, ‘I have to work on my visualization.’ And we want you to think more about holding the vision because it is pleasurable to hold the vision, not because you're trying to make the vision work in order to get to some place that you're not now standing. ‘How much should I work?’ We would say, work in the sense of joyously moving forward.”
The whole point of life is joy. End of story.
- Remember to appreciate and be grateful.
My feeling is that even if I forgot everything and just remembered one thing to still have my best year ever and live the life of my dreams, it would be to always look for things to appreciate and be grateful for every day.
I have found that appreciation and gratitude dissolves all resistance that I may have to the things I truly desire. As I concluded in The Secrets of My Success, gratitude is a power like no other (when I choose to use it).
- Relax.
It is also important for me to remember to relax and remain calm. Just like in the Staples office supply advertising campaign, I must press the “easy” button (which is always available), as needed. In other words, if the standards that I have set for myself are not bringing me joy, I should scale them back a little and go easier on myself, always reminding myself to laugh more, lighten up, play as much as possible, and don’t be so serious. When I can be easier on myself and lighter about everything, life tends to flow more easily and be more enjoyable.
The irony, of course, is that I have discovered when I can relax and remain balanced in this way, the things that I desire actually begin showing up much faster for me, than if I was stressed out and rushing around trying to make these same things happen.
This is another one of life’s great paradoxes.
So, here’s to our best year ever starting now!
