I Am in Love

People often associate the feeling of being in love as an intense feeling or attraction to another person, place, or thing. However, since I began my 30-day experiment with the power of surrender, being in love has a whole different meaning for me.

Initially when I began my experiment with surrendering to my Higher Power, I felt like I was simply releasing my own vision and limitations of how my day, life, and world should look, allowing a greater vision to emerge instead, through my voluntary and consciously chosen allowance of it.

After nearly a month of continuing this, my understanding has grown much deeper. When I am surrendering now, it feels like I am surrendering to the One Energy, the One Love that permeates all of creation. Therefore, I am literally and figuratively in Love (with a capital “L”) all of the time. I am literally swimming in It, as we all are, like individual cells in the same incredible Body. When I surrender to It, I know this truth in my heart. It is not just an intellectual concept for me to agree with or disagree with. Rather, it is a deeper knowingness which words fail to capture the true essence of.

In Yoga In A Book, I wrote that heaven “is a state-of-mind, a way of looking at the world that is available to you right now.” For me, being in Love and being in heaven is truly the same thing: a greater awareness where I can literally perceive the Oneness within everyone and everything.

Through this vision, my life experiences feel so alive, vivid, and “electric.” If I tried to describe it to many people, they might think I’m high on drugs. (It even sounds this way to me.)

Being in Love, I can give up all of my belief in “control” and choose to let go and go with the eternal Flow, following my path of least resistance. No planning is needed or required. I can step back and let my Higher Power lead the way. As A Course In Miracles says:

"A healed mind does not plan. It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to Wisdom that is not its own. It waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it. It does not depend upon itself for anything except its adequacy to fulfill the plans assigned to it. It is secure in certainty that obstacles can not impede its progress to accomplishment of any goal that serves the greater plan established for the good of everyone."

The spiritual teacher Sai Baba once said, “God equals man minus ego.” Being in Love taps me into this God-consciousness, the unity consciousness where all is one, all is good, and all is God. Being in Love keeps my ego out of the picture. The ego is my individual sense of self. It is the “me” here and “everyone/everything else” there consciousness. It is my self-image and personality consciousness, my self with a small “s”. Its only goal is self-preservation.

A Course In Miracles says that, regardless of the many different forms they may take for us, in truth we can only have one actual problem: A belief in our separation from God (and our Oneness with all.) Being in Love heals this illusion and erroneous thought by knowing that I am one with God and everything/everyone because nothing is outside of the Great All-That-Is.

As a result, I can now relax and spend my life following my heart and inspiration, doing whatever feels good, knowing that I am always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing. What a perfect place to be! I never knew that being in Love could also be my path to salvation.
